Southwest Flight Change Policy
Southwest Airlines is well-known for its customer-friendly flight change policy, which sets it apart from many other carriers. Unlike many airlines, Southwest does not charge a fee to change or cancel a flight, giving passengers significant flexibility. If a traveler needs to change a flight, they can do so without incurring any penalties, regardless of the fare type they originally booked. Instead, customers only pay the difference in fare if the new flight is more expensive. If the new flight is cheaper, the difference is either refunded or credited for future use, depending on the fare type.
This flexibility extends to their cancellation policy as well. Passengers can cancel their flights without penalty and, if they cancel at least 10 minutes before the scheduled departure, they will either receive a refund or credit depending on the fare type. For “Wanna Get Away” fares, passengers receive a credit valid for future travel, while “Anytime” and “Business Select” fares are refundable to the original form of payment. Southwest's policy is especially convenient for travelers who need to make last-minute changes or cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances, and the absence of change fees has made it a favorite among budget-conscious travelers.
