Te Wai Mauri Limited stands as a testament to the commitment of Ngāti Pārau towards preserving and nurturing the environment in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. Established in September 2020 and wholly owned by Te Wai Mauri Charitable Trust, this hapū-led venture is deeply rooted in kaitiakitanga principles, guided by te ao Māori and tikanga practices. Their primary mission revolves around the protection and enhancement of te taiao, the natural world. At the core of their operations are the Kaitiaki Rangers, a team of skilled professionals trained at the Eastern Institute of Technology in Taradale. Armed with qualifications in various fields such as Growsafe for safe chemical handling, outdoor first-aid, chainsaw operation, and pest management, these individuals are equipped to undertake diverse environmental contracting work. From fencing to weed management, their expertise spans a wide array of services crucial for the preservation of ecological balance. Central to their efforts is the Te Wai Mauri Nursery, a hub for cultivating robust, locally sourced plants tailored to thrive in Hawke's Bay's unique climate. Staffed with horticultural experts, the nursery encourages forward orders to secure plant supplies for upcoming seasons, ensuring a seamless integration of native flora into restoration projects. Ngāti Pārau, a hapū of Ngāti Kahungunu and mana whenua in the Ahuriri-Napier area, lends its rich cultural heritage to the enterprise. Renowned for their environmental stewardship, Ngāti Pārau has spearheaded initiatives such as the restoration of the Tūtaekurī river's mauri and the reintroduction of Rongoā species through native planting programs. Waiōhiki Marae, nestled in Waiōhiki, Napier, serves as the focal point of Ngāti Pārau's community and cultural endeavors. Te Wai Mauri Limited extends its services beyond mere restoration efforts, offering cultural and environmental monitoring projects. With a track record of conducting thorough assessments in areas like the Ahuriri Estuary and Tūtaekurī River, the company boasts specialists capable of seamlessly blending indigenous knowledge with modern scientific methods. In essence, Te Wai Mauri Limited emerges as a beacon of holistic environmental stewardship, seamlessly weaving together cultural heritage and contemporary expertise in a concerted effort to safeguard the natural treasures of Hawke's Bay.
